They are very strong plants and have good thick stems & lots of foliage.
The artichokes wernt too exposed until a couple of weeks ago when, believe it or not, archiologists came to open up the site & cut down all the long grass around my plot that had been acting as a wind break - so your 'wind' theory could be right.
I trust that it wont affect the tubers in any way???
