Blotches on Beanr

I have been harvesting the broad beans and it is a very good crop, but a few beans have brown blotches on the end. It's not really a problem, as I discard the affected ones and there has not been a great number yet. I have been growing beans for quite a few years and this is the first time I have encountered this problem and would be grateful to learn the cause.

Are they on the beans themselves or on the pods? If on the pods, it just means the bean is quite mature. You can still eat them.

I'm not sure about chocolate spot - never had it (nor have my beans!) but I think that affects the leaves. Someone will know!

Thank you Flummery - the blotches are on the end of the beans and the pods and foliage looks perfect. I'll post a picture if any of the next lot are affected.

You might find earwigs tunnelling inside the pods to make a little home. They will turn the pods black.
I have dozens of the little blighters doing it.

The pods are perfect. It is just the odd bean has a brown "smudge" at the tip. No holes in the beans themselves. I will be picking some more today and will see if there are any others affected.
