Pumpkin Question

Hi,

We are very new to vegetable growing and have started off some pumpkin seeds in our greenhouse.

They have grown to about 6 inches high now and have 4 or 5 leaves each.

My question is - do I now transplant them in to bigger pots or put them in the ground outside? I have looked all over the internet for some advice on this but cant seem to find anything.

Any help in much appreciated.

Get them in the ground now. They'll grow much better in the ground than in a pot and it should mean less care is needed on your part. They should grow a lot bigger than they are right now. The key thing is to try to keep them well watered and possibly a feed would be good to get them going. You should get some crops but they won't be really huge - or just keep them growing for longer.

Yes get them in the ground. Mine have been in for a while now and are going great guns, I have got lots of cricket ball sized pumpkins growing away happily.

Everything I found seemed to be aimed at American growers trying to raise monster pumpkins !

my plants are about 10inch high and have small flowering buds on them...one has the pumpkin behind it......they're in pots and a grow bag.......im short on ground space...i have potatoes coming up every so often....could i use the space they filled for the Pumpkin plants?

Yes Dan, I have planted pumpkins in the ground where I had spuds.

Pumpkins are thirsty, greedy plants ... water in well, and mulch to conserve moisture. Keeping them damp will help to see off that pesky Powdery Mildew too (there's another thread about that)
