pumpkin woes

So I plant a pumpkin plant and it grows all over the place. Tonight I got a amidge trigger happer with the snips and cut the stork that's got two pumpkins on it and is doing the best bit of the plant.

Part of it had rooted so i covered this bit with compost and watered it well.

Does anyone know if this will continue to grow or am I clutching at straws?

Hmmmm, depends how much root had grown I guess? Only time will tell! In the meantime, keep feeding and watering the main plant & it will soon produce some more flowers/fruit.

we had about an inch root or so.

i'll leave it in and if the plant starts to die I'll take it up and start again.

Pumpkins

Basically it has two chances, it might live, it might not.
Don't fret.
More fruit should form on the original plant.

I don't want to disappoint you but you might not get more fruit. If you have secondary vines (side shoots) these should take on board the role of primary so don't termiante these until you have enough fruit.

Unlike other plants when you terminate a pumpkin vine it stays terminated. It won't grow a new shoot from the cut and new fruit won't form on the vine behind. You should be very careful about pruning and only key secondary vines if needed. Unfotunatly they are very space hungry plants and do sprawl a lot. However, termination is a good thing once you have the desired volume of fruit. The plant will focus all its energy into feeding the fruit giving you a better crop.
