Cauliflowers!!!

Hi all,

A query regarding cauli's.

As i'm new to this I have been experimenting with various containers growing cauli's (the first seeds i bought last year).

Grew the seeds, then transplanted to trough's quite close together, then moved some to a large pot containing a privity kind of dwarf tree (does it show i'm new to this lol), and transplanted some into the ground (soils a bit clayie).

Now the cauli's in the pot although not large have produced flowers (curds i believe), but the cauli's in the ground have grown quite large with plenty of leaves but no flowers (curds).

Also i still have some cauli's in the troughs very healthy but small, could these be transplanted now and still flower.

hi ya whitevanman.
First of all cauliflowers need compacted soil , then room to grow and lots of food and water.
The cauli in the ground sounds like it's growing properly and should start producing the curd soon , where as the one in the tub with the tree sounds like it has been stressed so has gone to seed and produced a small head to early due to lack of space and fighting the tree for food and water.

The soil in the ground is quite sticky i.e. clay, I'm also creating raised beds and mixing in some topsoil and compost. What do think would be the best place for them?
do the cauli's stress with transplanting, i've heard some veg do.

No, brassicas don't mind transplanting.
As already said, they need a lot of room (about 2 foot apart each way?), and really firm soil around their stem ... trample it with your boots.
