  • How do I tell they ready

    My courgette that is.

I was given a courgette plant by one of my neighbours and put it in a large pot, (dont have a proper veg patch yet) and its done extrememly well. I have about half dozen growing between the two plants and have about 3 large ones already. 2 of them are about 4-5 inch long and about a inch in diamator. They are still very hard to the touch.

When will I know if they ready of not?

From a very novice veg grower.

Pick them when they're the size you want to eat them at.

      Agree.

Courgettes are ready at any size,no need to ripen etc...

Just pick 'em from about 4 inches long.

They should be hard to the touch, the reason why supermarket ones aren't hard is because they're probably a fortnight old.

Lol! TrustyTru - smallish will be less watery than the bigger courgettes, but you can let them get marrow size and still cook with them.

Eat them any size you like TrustyTru. Supermarkets charge a fortune for the little baby ones. Enjoy.

You can even eat them when the flowers still on and deep fry the flower in batter!

The quicker you pick em, the quicker they'll produce more!
