Help - Village Open Garden Weekend

I've decided to include our garden in the Village Open Garden Weekend Fundraiser at the end of next month. Before we bought the house last year everyne used to talk about the state of the garden so it will be nice to show people the transformation (hopefully they will be impressed). Everything is looking good but I need some help with a few bits and pieces.

I have a long trough made from scaffolding boards that currently has strawbs in it. They're over now so was going pull them out and try some stuff in there. What would look good? Salad stuff????

I have an old wheelbarrow - what would look colourful and interesting (bearing in mind we only have 5 1/2 weeks). I prefer edibles to flowers if poss.

I also have 2 small wooden wheelbarrows given to me by my lovely neighbour - any suggestions for these?

I have quite a few bits and pieces in the way of seeds - how quickly can Chard (Bright Lights) be grown?

All help/suggestions gratefully received. I'm a newbie and still learning.

Blimey to take Open Gardens, you can't be that much of a newbie?

Dunno for your growing but you can get some 'pretty' salads like lollo rosso stuff.

Hi Amanda, I don't really have any advice as other than salad crops which you mentioned, I don't know what will grow big enough to be impressive in 5 weeks. I just want to wish you good luck with it!

You could always cheat and get some plants in from the GC...

(Perpetual) spinach, rocket, radishes, parsley, pak choi, speedy carrots, spring onions, beetroot, peas or beans - apart from the first few they won't be ready for picking in 5-6 weeks but at least they'll have some green stuff to admire! I should think the same applies for chard. Or take cuttings from your toms and stick them in.
