OKAY..... I'm going to be my usual self, and post up a thread straight from my heart....

This forum is beautifully full of people now beginning to grow their own, and like myself, it's interesting now, with time, to see how we're all getting our own kind of confidence, entering shows and advising others on what we've learned ourselves over these last few years, and continuing to learn each and everyday too?

With Grow Your Own's very own VIRTUAL SHOW last year, which was SUCH a joy to enter, novices AND knobs (!), it's taught us all that whether you know nothing at all, or you think you know everything.... sometimes, it's just BRILLIANT to be able to take part. And whatever you've achieved, to BLOW YOUR OWN TRUMPET.

In my humble opinion, I see nothing whatsoever wrong with being proud of what you have achieved, big or small.

I take my hat off (if I was wearing one) to Flummery today.
Flummy, you are one seriously talented lady, if I may say so, and it is no wonder that the judges saw fit to put you at the top.

Very many congratulations. You deserve it 'with knobs on' in my humble opinion.

Couldn't agree more Wellie m'dear. Congratluated Flum soon as I read her post. And as for the Vine, not only is it great fun and highly addictive, it was also partly responsible (at least those Grapes who were around in the early days were) for me deciding to take the plunge and grow veg for a living. All were very supportive and full of advice and assistance, and for that, and the change that my business has made to my life (and that of my family), I shall be eternally grateful.
Thre isn't a trumpet big enough to blow for the Vine !!

Anyway, yes Wellie - well done Flummery, not only is she a dab hand at showing stuff but she's an all round good egg too.

Looking forward to taking part in this year's VVS - just hoping that something worth showing grows in time though.

And for those who didn't spot naughty Aunt Flum hiding her light under a bushel in the 'what I did today' thread...

What I did YESTERDAY - was enter the village show with my double bed quilt, a jar of gooseberry and elderflower jam, a jar of crab-apple and damson chutney and loads of fruit, veg anf flowers. I decided I would just enter anything I had the right produce for, regardless of whether it looked particularly good. Result! I got 7 Firsts, 5 Seconds and 2 Thirds. Fourteen place cards altogether - and I entered 16 categories. I then got the Handicrafts cup for the Quilt (get to keep these for a year and have your name engraved on them), The Produce cup AND the challenge shield for most overall points. Can't get head in through door now!

Mine is a tiny boast in comparison to all those above but I'm pretty pleased to have served up our very first home grown spuds for tea today

I've grown a radish... And it tasted great!
I've grown some Luttice rocket and land cress, so i've got salad stuff.
The tomatoes that the man at the garden centre said 'you'll be luck, living where you do' have fruit on (5 out of 7 anyway.)
and my first courgete is gettin there.
Also I've learned to make turbo cider, beer, wine type fallingdown liquid and elderflower cordial.
Yep, i'm doing great!

without the vine i may have gone off the rails, but i am always finding an answer to my many questions and thanks to every single one of you grapes, who have helped make my toms so tasty and who point me in the right direction!

PS I have a small trumpet to blow, am very proud that my okra plants are beginning to set fruit! Will be pleased if I even get one okra, but at the moment it looks like I might get more than that

PPS There should be a little smilie for cheering. There is a space for one more smilie on the panel, and it should be trumpet-shaped.
