broccoli

hi all
i read somewhere that you have to take the middle head out of broccli to encourage more growth now does that mean the shop type (some call it calabreese i think) or a differant type, and if so how big should the head be before you remove it

The shop stuff is actually Calabrese.
Proper broccoli (purple sprouting etc) - the heads are much smaller. Yes, take out the central head, and more will grow.

eating size

no really, some are thumb size, others get to drumstick size before I pick them. It's up to you.
