  • Butternut Squash

    My squash plants have finally started to produce fruit! I've got three of the little beauties growing on one stem. What should I do now to encourage them to grow bigger.

    Also, my Aubergines keep dropping their flowers. They are growing in a greenhouse. The plants look very healthy and are producing lots of flowers but they seem to shrivel up and drop off for no apparent reason.

    And finally, why are all my cucumbers turning yellow.

    Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Rob

          Hi
          I'd like to add;

          1) Well done!! I haven't got a single fruit on mine yet - I don't think they like 'The North' You could feed the plants weekly with some tomato food, this will encourage the fruit to grow.

          2) As Paul says, lightly mist the flowers with water, or use a tiny paintbrush to transfer pollen between the flowers & then mist

          3) Are the cucumbers turning yellow when they're tiny, or are they a reasonable size? If they look somewhere near ready & start turning yellow, it's because they're getting too ripe. If they're turning yellow while still tiny, then try feeding them - tomato food again, and maybe a little sprinkle of chicken manure pellets too. Also check that the plants aren't too wet (stem rot), or too dry - cucumbers like some humidity, so if you can, pour some water over the greenhouse floor in hot weather.

            Take heart with your aubergines Corn on the Rob. Mine were the same - flowers a go go - but the plants just kept throwing them away - BUT - last few days there are little aubergines everywhere. I'll see how they get on, this is my last try.
            Good luck with yours.
