  • Something is eating my swede

    My swede are being eaten/broken off at the base.Any ideas.Could it be mice?
    The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested,when you take,some knocks,some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.

    Could it be slugs ? I have once had swedes attacked by these blighters and they made a right mess of them, but now I do a nightly patrol.

      slugs have had ripped the leaves of my swede to shreds.

        At what stage of growth are the swede? If just seedlings a cutworm will go along a row knocking down one or two each evening.

          They are just seedlings.Deffo not slugs cos I nuke em.
          Anything I can do about cutworms?

              If you dig a trowel full of earth out directly under the plant they are usually nestled 3 or 4 inches below ground. About 30mm long and a greenish grey, usually curled up. They come to the surface at night.
