  • Lookin ahead/rotation

Ok, so im looking ahead to next year and want some advice.
I have 3 very small (1m x 0.5m) areas in my garden that I plant up- other than that i use pots/tubs and pretty much anything i can lay my hands on.

    Bed 1 salad (lettuce/spinach/rocket)
    Bed 2 onions n garlic
Bed 3 Cucumber, corgette, squash & peas
All my other stuff is in pots, i have no root or barassicas to speak of in the ground.

Do I need to rotate my crops??
I have no idea what im doin!

Yes, your Cucumbers and Onions should not be in the same soil next year as they suffer from bugs/diseases that are likely to be hard to control. The Lettuce won't matter so much, and probably the Rocket too [as it is a short term crop] (but is Rocket a Brassica??)

      Hi
If you have got 3 beds and are going to grow the same again, then it does make sense to rotate. My rotation worries would be about the peas and onions tho, not the cukes.

Yeah, I'd agree, if you can rotate, then you should. The onions especially can be prone to diseases, some of which are nearly impossible to eradicate once you have them (white rot). Also, the peas fix nitrogen in the soil which would benefit the salad crops the following year.

I am not going to plant my spare peas (too many for main pea & bean plot) next to courgettes or tomatoes like I did this year, they just can't take the run off from the watering
