I like the sound of that plan!!
OH made me a frame with wood & wire netting to enclose one of my raised beds. I can lift the frame off the side I am working on as he made it in panels. The plan is to have some additional environmesh frames that fit into these when needed. The Fort Knox of the veggie world.....birds, puss cats and all other threats to my veggies eat your heart out.....

My raised beds are quite high I hasten to add

Me and the OH are in the middle of landscaping our garden with sleepers, we are using jarrah wood sleepers, its a very dense wood from Australia/Newzealand, its untreated and wider than normal sleeprs 12-13 inches. they worked out at £16 per sleeper from Home - M-Track UK Limited we live local to them (sheffield) so delivery was only £10.

Were leveling our garden on one lawn to create a raised veg bed and a lowered patio instead of having an un even lawn we didnt use, its almost finninshed and if I remember later when I get home ill post some pics

Get some rails and you could run your own trains.
Must be possible to beat BR (or who ever) for satisfaction and service.
Expect the worst in life and you will probably have under estimated!

                Seriously though
Rail sleepers are too thick , cost too much and have creosalte (spelling?) .
Scafolding planks are much better but will cost.
As I have said in other posts, recycled pallets are the optimal all purpose wood resourse. With the benifit of costing "zilch".
If you want to pay £3 a meter then OK, but I prefer paying £1.40 a pint for Sam Smiths Best Bitter !

Not all sleepers have creasote Jimmy, only the old ones. I agree though that they are too thick and much prefer my bed's made from decking .....given to us..... so free.....can't get much cheaper than that

OH tells me that pallets are too thin and untreated......so I guess that means your beds may be short term.....not that I know much about it, much happier doing the green bit. I don't think I would be happy with beds that weren't going to last though. Such a mamouth task building them, that we wouldn't want to repeat the performance too often

Prefer to keep the JS for the slugs....bottle of red though.....now your talking
