I am going to start lifting onions next week - but not for drying or storage yet - I prefer the taste of "wet" onions - much sweeter and juicer than the same onions after drying. I dry mine outside on drying racks made from windbreak fabric when the weather is good, or on plastic bread trays in the tunnel when it's not.

i pulled mine today, only had about 20 or so, as it was so bad with the rain, i have laid them on the greenhouse floor for tonight (it is slabbed), do i need to put them on a rack or anything, or can i leave them there as its dry??

they will probably be used in the next few weeks!

They don't need to go on a rack but if you can lift them off the ground it will improve air circulation round them and so they will dry quicker.
