My squash plants are rampant! But every time a flower sets and starts to grow we get more and more rain, the fruit turns brown and rots away. I'm keeping them off the ground, do you think it would help if I covered them with cloches - just to get them going or is it getting too late in the season now to achieve anything?

Hello Comfreyfan, sadly I think you have been a victim of the weather.
Squash wants a long, hot summer.
Your plants sound as if they have not been fertilised properly as the bees don't work so well when the rain is lashing.
It also depends what kind you are growing. You might still have time for the little Patti Pans to form and ripen (mine are just coming good now) but if you are growing butternut types then you might be succesful if summer arrives and goes on through September, October and November.
Hope you manage to salvage something. Good luck.
