Hello, I've just picked my first cucumber ("Tasty Burpless green") and i picked when 9 inches in length as stated. When i picked it the cucumber was firm to touch but the following day it has now become soft and squidgy. Is this right? or has something gone wrong? Once i got the cucumber home it was left out for some time before going into the fridge. Can anyone advise me on what they do with the cucumber once picked from the plant. My 5 cucmber plants are all planted outside. Many thanks,

I've grown Wautoma and Marketmore with (for me) much success. No softening and this year I've actually managed to avoid the problems pickledtink has had which I had the year before last. I was all for giving up growing cukes but my daughter adores them so I keep trying.Bright Blessings

Not sure what to suggest. I have been growing Burpless Tasy Green for a couple of years now, and am really pleased with them. I water them every day, and allow them to grow up to 12 inches. I wouldn't have thought leaving it out of the fridge would have made any difference. Better luck next year?

Not really climatically suitable for outdoor cukes up here but my greenhouse grown F1 Topsy has been absolutely superb both last year and this , both in terms of yield and taste. Keeps in fridge no bother, other than they don't last long - I'll eat one a day no bother.Rat

Same here. Grew marketmore this year with great success. I know i have said this before on another thread, but when i was going away on holidays i planted my cucs and peppers outdoors (last week of May) as there was nobody to take care of them in the greenhouse. Four weeks later i dug them up and brought them back in again. In spite of all this i am getting a great crop.
