  • Attracting pollinating insects

Does anyone know of a good way of attracting pollinating insects indoors to pollinate my chillies (next year). Grew s few chillie plants in doors, on first floor, and didn't get any insects "interested" in pollinating them. So, only got a few fruit that I got from hand pollinating. The fruit that did grow did so very well, so don't think the plants were unhappy, just didn't get many of them.

    Any advice would be great.

Chillis don't have to be pollinated by insects so I don't think the lack of them is your problem.

Like tomatoes and aubergines, each chilli flower contains both male and female parts. All the needs to happen is that the flower moves so that the pollen moves around internally. Sometimes insects get involved, but they are not essential.

Sometimes fruit doesn't set because the air is too dry, too cold, too hot (some pollen dies at around 40 degrees or so) or there isn't enough air movement. Equally, flowers can drop when there just isn't enough growing media to support fruiting.
