  • Are my tomatoes okay

I have many green tomatoes of cherry and vine shaped and was leaving them to ripen however in the last two days the leaves of most of the plants have started to display huge black spots. Should I remove the leaves and pick al the tomatoes now knowing they will not be so sweet as being left on the plant or is there a danger the fruit wil be affected if I leave them be

Try taking all the affected leaves off the plants now and watch them all the time, taking off leaves that look dodgy when they appear, this may give you enough time to harvest some ripe fruit.
If they get too bad, you will have to take all the tomatoes off and ripen them inside, but watch those too, as they can turn blighty after you bring them in.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Same happened to mine on the allotment. I took a drastic approach of stripping them bare except a few leaves. They don't seem to have suffered.

Sounds like Blight. If so remove the leaves and destroy them (don't compost them). Spray with Bordeau mixture.

I reckon once it spreads to the fruit you've had your chips so do whatever prevention you can. This godawful wet summer is not helping

Hi my tomato's are showing signs of blight, However,I have not seen any signs on the leaves. Should I pick all the green tomato's now and turn them in to chutney.

You can make chutney with your green tomatoes Swampie Sue, or leave them in the kitchen and see if they will just ripen (they usually do) or fry them green. One way or another you can use them.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
