Tall peas

I've been growing Alderman (and saving the seed) now for several years and they are excellent, but I want to branch out into another variety. I started trying to find a tall pea that I liked the sound of and haven't really been able to find one.
Then I read about Champion of England pea, I mean, what a name to start with, it sounded great.... then I discover you can't actually buy the seed anymore, got myself all worked up for nothing.

So what am I after, am I gently enquiring if anyone here has any CoE seeds? maybe slightly, but I'm also after a good old tall pea where you can actually get hold of the seed.
Personal experienced recommendations very much appreciated.

I only grow tall peas as it saves bending down. I grow Ne Plus Ultra (featured on the Victorian Kitchen Garden series) and a tall growing purple podded variety. Both types are about 7 foot now and still growing!

I use Victorian Climbing Pea from the Victoriana Nursery, based on an allderman veriety i believe.. Last year the sheer weight collapsed my bamboo cane frame....this year on a purpose built frame I nipped out the tips at 8 feet. Always produces an excellent crop of large podded well filled tasty peas.

To be honest I grow Hurst Greenshaft.

I plant them far too close together and they never produce peas lower than waist height.

Sounds daft but it works.

What do you do to save your seeds? I have kept a few pods and left them to dry. Do I need to do anything else?

Nope!............Just keep em dry and cool.

Last year I had some in a paper bag in the greenhouse and the mice nibbled there way in. I keep em in a biscuit tin now!

Thanks all, after reading about the Ne Plus Ultra, I like the sound of them and will give them a go next year.
Snadger, if you want some alderman and want to swap, give me a pm.

James, I try to leave the peas on the plants until the pods dry right up, you want to get to them just before the pods split and spill the seed all over the floor however, I have spent the odd late summer day crawling on the floor in search of seeds.

You can now buy this variety

I just bought some seed from Realseeds. They don't have a lot yet but they are selling a packet with 100 peas in.

Vegetable Seeds : Pea seeds, indeed Real Seeds do have them, thought I'd seen them somewhere. I had mine originally from HSL and have saved from them. Unfortunately I have none spare as I've given to friends but they are a great pea, lovely and juicy. I also grow Telephone and Serpette Guilloteau from real seeds as well as Pilot which grow to about 5' so short by comparison. I only grow dwarf peas in the polytunnel and use Poppet for that as I find they work well for an early crop. Have some Ultra U and Robinson from HSL to try this year also. Have grown Alderman in the past but not this year.

Ah! Dan of Allotment diary fame!
I used to grow Alderman but they need so much support and keeping catapillars off is a full time job. Now I followed Dans lead and grow Hurst Green shaft, not quite and tall but much more managable.
