  • Oh My God I Did It!!!

i was turning the soil over in my garden today and i found a potato, even though it was next to the potato plant i didn't believe that it actually came from that plant, so i had a rifle round in the soil and found some more, i couldn't believe it, that plant came from an old spud we got from the supermarket and i thought nothing would come of it.

wow! i am so excited, i got 8 little ones and three bigger ones all together, enough for tea tonight. I've never tasted a home grown veg before, i hope it's tasty.

    Yay me.

I've put the plant back in to see if i can get some more.

      Hey...well done!!!

it'll be the best spud ever!¬
Don't peel it and watch out you don't over cook them- I find these new spuds cook quicker than shop bought ones!

LOL - I felt exactly the same way about my first spuds this year too.
I didn't really believe there would be any potatoes under there, but there were.

Its a great feeling, i had my 1st spuds this year, charlotte in tubs and supermarket at the end of the garden..Tubs were full from only 4 potatoes to start from and them supermarkets 6 have given quite a harvest, not sure who was more excited, me or my little girl(16 months old and loves saying wooowww!!!) have found when steaming the new pots they split if over cooked but taste fantastic....cant wait for next year
                I'll be SLACK!!!

I'm here for a good time, not a long time

Congratulations Amanda. It will give you confidence for next year.
These Charlotte were grown in a bucket from supermarket potatoes.
I know the temptation is to eat the potatoes as soon as you lift them, but I find they cook better without splitting if kept for a few days before steaming.

hurrah! That's how I "discovered" growing potatoes. I shoved a couple in the ground that I'd bought from Waitrose and were sprouting. When I found actual little potatoes months later I was chuffed to bits! Congratulations!

Spuds are ace, aren't they? The trouble is, I can't remember what variety I bought, but have managed to keep a 'rolling stock' of the ones I bought earlier in the year. Fingers crossed I'll never buy a spud again (well, maybe one or three...).

i have no idea what kind of spud it was, literally found it sprouting in the kitchen veg draw and threw it in a bucket of soil, not sure if i will get any more from the plant now but i was so exciting because i wasn't expecting to find anything, i was just fixing the soil, such a great surprise!
