I'm with Demeter there - I plan to plant in Autumn and again in Spring.

Last year and this year were the only two seasons that garlic did badly for me. I'm just dreaming of proper, homegrown garlic at this stage. I blame the rain of course.

Well done Vegmandan - I'm bigging it up here in my chair for your garlic.

Very nice crop. First time growing garlic and only got one nice one (and it wasn't all that big). Shallots seemed to do very well in same bed, so think just bad luck. Going to try again next year. I'll get some home grown garlic yet!

Well if anyone is considering planting in spring then I can highly recommend Wilko's garlic which these were originally from, and they are in stock around early March.

The best bit though is the price £1.49 for 3 whole bulbs !!!
Please have a look at my Veg Growing Diary.

Yep, thats where I got mine from in the spring. I've just dug up the last 5 bulbs today. They looke nice and juicy. We also snipped off some of the leaves through the summer and used them in salads and also stirred some through mashed potatoes yummy

Mine were wilkos bargain ones too and they did fabulously. Planted in late jan/early feb (when we actually had sunshine ). I put 8 cloves each into small trough planters from wilkos.

I have actually been sat here looking round online shops for autumn garlic, but you lot are making me wonder if it's worth it?

I've planted Cristo in late autumn, and some more in spring, for the last 2 years. Both times the autumn planted have done better than the spring ones, and they store better too. I grow in slightly improved yorkshire clay, so nothing special about the soil! I'll be planting lots of Cristo again this autumn, but I'm also trying a few new varieties too as I've never tried any other!
