Don't belive so bigdog. Tomatoes should be planted out into their place before a root trainer would be of much use. Nothing wrong with it either though.
Experienced tomato growers often recommend restricting the roots of tomato plants to force them into flowering more quickly.
They don't need the depth of rootrainers, and I would worry about sowing them in anything deeper than a couple of inches as it's very easy to end up with soggy soil that doesn't dry out. Tomato seedlings hate that.
Small modules or a seed tray are just fine. Pot up young plants when they have outgrown the space, not before.
So, I would say no, there's no advantage to using rootrainers for tomatoes.
