  • Weird Courgette

Thought you might like to see the latest addition to my courgette family! It's appeared on the courgette 'Orelia' & is a bit weird looking. I asked about the courgettes we've had with bulbous ends & ones that have shrivelled at the Llangollen Gardening Show & the Bayer Roadshow experts just said that courgettes are not always a perfect cylindrical shape & that some do just rot & drop off, although when I mentioned that one of the green ones had some yellow streaking on it they thought it might be a virus but as the rest of the plant was O.K. & it was a 'Defender' with new leaves coming through fine it might not be!

    Bit of a split personality!

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know that so it goes on flying anyway.

I plan on growing them next year, and if I get one like that i'm sure it will make interesting talk at a garden party

Some of mine have done the same thing SueA. I think they just do that.

When they do that it's due to an erratic water supply.

Thanks Pickledtink, I thought it might have something to do with the watering.

Possibly is the watering as I tend to be a bit erratic in more ways than one! But it shouldn't really be a problem as the courgettes are in large 'self-watering' containers that have a reservoir in the bottom & a floating marker which shows when the level drops & I try to keep an eye on them. Just think that this year in particular I've had more unusually shaped ones than normal.
