  • When do I pick Red Kuri please?

First time I've grown a squash and I bought them as seedlings through the post from a 'well known tv gardener's' website. Dreadful plants when they arrived, broken, dry and no instructions! Sorry, another story. Anyway, I have about 3 fruits swelling and more to come, only had female flowers for ages so took time to get started. The biggest is about the size of my fist and bright yellow, all the pictures I have seen show it as a dark warm orange and I can't get an idea of how large they should be. The growing rate is amazing now they have started but how do I know when they are ready, do they change colour or what?

I am of course hoping for a warm balmy September with lots of sun, no pests and only rain at night, but then who isn't

Patience Nellie let them alone and leave them to mature, they will be ready when the stem attaching them to the vine drys up and becomes brittle.

Thanks for that. Should I offer any additional support, like slinging in an old pair of tights etc. I'm growing them up a wigwam - don't know if that was correct but like I said, no instructions were provided.

Are you implying that it will stop raining for long enough for anything to dry up and get brittle!

They do go orange, so wait a bit longer. Mine started off yellow-ish just like yours but is now a dark orange.

The skin will get thicker and darker in colour, and the stem will also harden.
