what beans can be grown in the UK?

I'd like to grow beans for drying to use in veggie chillies. I was thinking of kidney beans, black-eye beans, turtle beans, pinto beans and haricot beans.

Have any grapes had any luck with these? Or other varieties?

I'm growing a few bolotti beans this year for drying but not many - they were more of an experiment but should give me a couple of meals.

Haricot just means dried bean ... it isn't a variety.
Kidney beans are any big fat dried bean - a barlotti is a kidney bean, as is a Yin Yang.

I have successfully grown Pinto beans, but not Black Eyed Peas (aka Cowpeas)
For something that looks like a real red classic kidney bean: grow Canadian Wonder.
For a black turtle bean: grow Cherokee Trail of Tears.
For a canellini type bean: grow Cosse Violette (purple beans, white seeds)
For beautiful fat lovely beans: grow Barlotti (dwarf or tall) and Yin Yang, or Tiger.
For a butter bean type: grow White Emergo runner bean

Grew both 'Soissons' and 'Blue and White' last year - wonderful in the veggie recipes. Soissons are a pale green or white, the other does what is says on the tin.....added Madiera Maroon this year, but haven't 'taste tested' it yet.

Having alot of success with Pinto beans this year, for our chllis through the winter. Grown from beans from a packet we used to soak and boil before they were ready.

try Real Seeds as well, for a good range of beans.

ahhhhh glad I saw this thread
I found some bean seeds left in the shed when we moved into this house last year and they are the spit of the Yin Yang beans up there..

What are they ? How do they grow (climbing / bush etc) ? And do you eat the pods ? Or pop out the seeds ??

Will give 'em a try next year...

The yin-yang I grow are climbing beans. Mine are still on the vine and are the only beans still looking in full growth! However, I've seen a dwarf variety so I'm not sure what yours would be. Give them a whirl but put them out in such a place that you can tie them to canes in a wigwam if need be.
