  • A question about newly dug soil

Hi - I've just created some new raised beds and I'd like to plant some rapini & some kale and I'd like to know if I have to leave my soil to rest for a while first or can I just sow away this week?

The soil has been dug down to a depth of about two feet with the top six inches being a well-riddled tilth and the two inches below that being well-rotted horse manure.

Any advice for a poor newbie?

    Hi there,

I did the same this year and built several raised beds in my garden, after I had filled and dug them over I heeled a lot of the air out of them for the same reason, and the results have been great.

I laid a plank over the areawalked on it then moved it over a little etc. you get the picture.

With some plants like brassicas you may have to compact it a little more as they like to have solid roots but this should not hold you back.

    God luck

Cheers Darren - I'll be doing just that this weekend. Thanks for the advice.
