Tomatoes Splitting

Please could someone give me some information on growing Tomatoes? The plants I have bought have been great, plants I have grown from seed have not been good. All tomatoes on vines are splitting, I have fed them with miracle grow twice a week, and ground is constantly damp. All the plants are in the same green house? Can anybody give me any hints or tips as to why this is happening!?

I am new to grow your own fruit and veg.

some varieties are more prone to splitting. Sungold does it.

you're over-feeding, but I don't think that's the problem.

Fluctuating growth rates cause tomatoes to suddenly expand. This might happen after a period of drought followed by generous watering, or low temperatures followed by a sudden sunny spell. The split might then become infected, causing the tomatoes to rot.

Ventilate greenhouse tomatoes during very hot spells and provide shading. Promptly pick off any split tomatoes before they start to rot.

Usually a tomato splits its skin because it swells to fast for the skin to cope. This is often seen if you let a growbag dry out to much and then supply lots of water.
Remember that a tomato is like any other plant and will reproduce or bear fruit because it thinks its dying. Feeding twice a week sounds too much and miracle grow is not the best feed you can give the plants, you need something with a better NPK ratio (which I'm sure somebody has covered). I assume by the ground being constantly damp that they are well watered but you dont say if they grow in the ground, pots or growbags etc so its difficult to advise if you are watering correctly.
Dont worry am sure the vine will have you on the correct path for next year!

Mine are splitting as well this whilst they are still green. Rain, rain, rain and more rain seems to be the cause

Sungold split.

It's their hobby, their profession, their raison d'etre.

But they taste bl**dy good, so just pick 'em and eat 'em as soon as you can.

As the others have said, you are watering and feeding too much. Good greenhouse varieties - try Vanessa - just don't split. The skins are slightly tough (hence they last well), but not unpleasant, and they crop over a very long time.
