wouldn't have thought so (unless this long overdue warm/sunny spell continues until then)
i planted a row about this time last year, didn't start harvesting them until early april.
still worth planting now (assuming they are winter hardy) as not much else happens harvesting wise that early in the season.
I sowed some spring onions a week or so ago cos I had a bit of space and couldn't think of anything else I fancied growing lol. They are in a bucket under cover (the one I ripped a tomato out of cos I was fed up of looking at it and not seeing fruit...) (now I'm looking at it at not even seeing seedlings!)
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
It does sound odd - salad for xmas, but we normally have a buffet style tea on xmas day and boxing day. I don't eat meat so actually enjoy the salad in the evening more than the main event at lunch time!
