The crazy thing is that these were grown from 1 or 2 supermarket 'baby plum' tomatoes. This was a really a furthering of last years experiment, I'm so pleased to have managed to grow such a great variety of taste, shapes and sizes from two shop bought toms.

i will restrict myself next year to the 7 packet varieties i think, if not i'll be swimming in them

Am still letting mine ripen on the plants for another couple of weeks as I've still got green chutney left from last year!

i wanted to alison but unfortunately some of the fruits had started to brown with blight. This was half cull and half harvest

Bad luck with the blight - have managed to avoid so far (quickly grabs a large piece of wood!) but live in fear of it attacking!

about 25 litres of pasata so far. another batch to do tonight and still buckets of toms to go......... AAAaaarrrrhgghh!!!!!!! Stil, I had planned to make them alst till next year and we do aet a lot of pasta (home made of course) :-)

We've 45 x 1 1/2lb bags of frozen passatta / pasta sauce in one of the freezers, 8 1lb jars of tomato puree, 5 bottles (750ml) of tomato sauce already stored, and another 8lb of toms ready to be processed this week, plus of course what ripens this week, with I guess another 40 or 50lb of toms still ripening / growing at present! Guess we may have enough to see us thru the winter, perhaps, maybe! lol!

Maybe 62 tomato plants was a little bt overkill, but after last years dismal harvest I really wanted to make sure we had enough to see us thru the winter! lol!

wow and well done to you, can i have some please, as my toms are all finished and the last being ripened before eating! i was never the greatest tom lover before, but now i am, i have made roasted tom relish and it looks simply devine, i cant wait to eat it!!!

ahh sorry guys, it would appear i was lucky. I planted in april/march from a scooped out tom into a pot and then pricked out the seedlings......for weeks!

long live crazy experiments. Next up the TPS challange in march,

How do you make pasta sauce, just tomatoes, garlic.... any recipes greatly appreciated. Is there anything else that can be made using tomatoes - I too have been inundated.....

Hi kwa50! For the pasta sauces that I've frozen, I've basically made a sauce as I would to eat immediately, but not added any meat, then just bagged and frozen it, for the ketchup and puree, then I've used a combination of the info from below! Hope these are of some help!
