  • How to move a Fat Hen

    Hi all,

I have an accidental Fat Hen in my front garden that I'd like to move to my back - is this possible? If not, how do I re-seed some in my back garden next year?

Don't re-seed it HB!!! I'm plagued with the bl**dy stuff on my lottie. grows quicker than a quick thing.

If you really must then wait till the seed ripen & scatter them on the back garden & stand back!

Hi Jennie, not sure you'll want fat hen in your garden it's a thriving, not very pretty weed which can shed 20,000 seeds in a year! Headburro wants to cultivate it because you can use it in cooking, the young leaves can be used like spinach, so if you fancy that give it a go.

Thanks Sue - sounds as though it could be a bit rampant!

              Fat Hen - Thanks

Hi all - thanks for your advice & warnings. I think I'll re-seed it in a pot so I can try to control its spreading nature - I still want to keep it as I have some lovely food plans for it

I do indeed, SBP. Some of the other links in the 'Beautiful Things' section are just as gorgeous as that site, too. Unfortunately there are no shots of melon having their bottoms either squeezed or sniffed, I'm afraid. I'll try and do better.

Good luck in your Honourable Quest, SBP san.

HB - you know they say 'good things come to those who wait' did you figure out what it said on your birthday bean (from HB's blog link)?

ps somehow I found a link from your blog to mamta's kitchen (I can't find it again, I hate the structure of blogs) - there are some yummy sounding recipes to try.

                        Birthday beans

Hiya SBP - the birthday bean said "Happy Birthday" but the 'Birthday' bit split down the middle - if you click on the picture you can see full size pics in the Wild Burro Gallery (wow!)

Same goes for the Fat Hen - click on the small pic in the blog post for big pics in the gallery.
