I posted about this in another thread. I couldn't get any from Wilkos and was advised there was a shortage.

they still have them advertised on morgans, i didn't order any , but they were definately there, cos i had read this thread just prior to ordering sets for reds and whites, some duo combo morgans had that i fancied trying as my first go.
still, advertised is not the same as actually having them.Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

I wonder if the poor conditions this summer - OK the period between March and September! - is the reason?
When I bought my spuds from T&M this year they only had around 3 of 15 or so varieties available of onions and shallots due to the rotting in storage. If the experts are unable to get these things right - then the bad summer for out crops is perhaps not so bad.Last edited by quark1; 22-09-2008, 09:03 PM.

Totally off topic, but your post made me smile - I'm originally from a place called Mytholmroyd - very near to Tod, no one's heard of it down here
....... right back to them onions.........
blimey, I went to the seed shed that my local lottie forum runs and they said their onions would be in this Sat just gone - popped down there and they now say its gonna be two weeks - i might just start hunting around locally, I don't wanna miss out

I ordered mine from Dobies ages ago, they haven't turned up yet but then nor have I heard anything from them about availability... perhaps I'll e-mail them!
(NB I think those ordering from catalogue now are ordering for next year - when I checked "last orders" for autumn sets seems to be end of August.)
Still, it's not the end of the world, I've got 4 trays of seed grown onions and most have germinated and are growing away slowly but surely. The germination rate for the North Holland Bloodred Redmate doesn't seem to be as good as the Hi-Keeper (i.e. only about 70% or so) but even so I reckon I've got maybe 75 to 80 onion plants coming alongWarning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
