...I trimmed back the squash plant, to help focus on the lone squash. With the first snip, I cut off the bloody squash!!!!!

Much swearing ensued and I had to plant out 200 onions to calm down. Gah!

Do squash ripen further indoors? It does sound hollow, but it's rather small lookin, being double fist sized. I thought it would get bigger?

    Sounds like its ripe.
    Ours is the same.

PS I did the same with our prize pumpkin - it had somehow moved so it was no longer sitting on the upturned tray, I lifted it gently so I could ease the tray back underneath - oops!!!

What variety is it Sluglobber? I did the same with a butternut squash, skin still green but a reasonable size. It's sitting in the back porch at the moment turning a nice yellow colour. It does get put into the sunshine when I'm at home and there is any, and I did manage to cut it with a reasonable length of stalk (all squash keep better when the stalk is as long as possible for some reason - seems to stop them rotting/drying out)

Too late, RL. I cut the stalk quite short! Oh well, it's in a little bed (cardboard box), so we'll see. I foretell a curried squash soup in a week or too. Yum!

Personally, I had a really cr@p Butternut Squash season this year, and only managed about half a dozen fist-sized beauties! but because last year was even worse (NO viable crop at all!) I used all of mine 'fresh' a week ago in recipes contributing to stuff our freezers for 'leaner times ahead', and therefore now don't need to bother my dizzy blonde hightlights as to whether the squashes will dry out and cure, or not.
But I hope it all works out well for you SL.
