      Santa got me two different varieties of gherkin for christmas so hopefully I will be in gherkin heaven later in the year!

        I grew 2 plants from seed (wilkos I think) in the greenhouse and they were great, started them late-ish too. I made about 15 jars of picckles and they are as good as shop boght if a little soft.

          Thanks for the tip of Real Seeds - I searched for the latin name and should have looked harder. The online catalogue of Real Seeds has some wonderful seeds and I have already placed an order. Thank You

            This is an excellent thread - thanks very much. I buy 'emergency' gherkins every week as they are a favourite (low fat) snack! I shall certainly be trying to grow and pickle my own.
