A few questions for you all...

Ok, so a little help with a tew things:

1. I had PSB go to seed...i've cut the plant down and hung it in the shed to dry...Can the seeds be used next season? (it was an organic plug plant last year)

2. My cleared courgette/ sweetcorn bed has fibrous roots still in it...before i plant my onions should i change/ sort the soil out??

3. Last night i bought an organic pumkin and made soup...can the seeds be saved, dried and used to plant out next year?

1.) PSB that has went to seed early could produce progeny that also go to seed early. Also it is best to seed at least six similar brassicas to produce a good genebase, or so I believe.

2.) The roots in the soil should rot down eventually but could cause fungal problems as they do so. I would be inclined to at least tickle the soil over, remove the roots before planting onion sets. if you manured for the sweetcorn and courgettes there should be no need to manure again.

3.) The pumpkin seeds will be ok if they didn't come from an F1 hybrid variety.

or if you haven't got courgettes, squash etc growing too, cos they can cross pollinate and you could end up with pumpkin x anything growing, there was a post on this recently(i'd find it but i'm feeling lazy) , and a few of us are going to see what we come up with.

hello, you can save the pumpkin seeds,dry them out, and then nibble on them yourself!! my son used to feed them to his pet rats!!

nope. Brassicas are very promiscuous, and will cross with almost anything, including wild mustard (charlock) which is a horrible weed

I'm a bit lazy, and I leave the roots in situ. Actually, I usually leave the entire sweetcorn stalk in place all winter ... the soil is covered to prevent erosion & suppress weeds, and by springtime the stalks are nicely part-decomposed and easy to pull up for the compost heap.

I also hope the stalks will provide shelter for hibernating ladybirds etc.

Okay so I am either thick or I need to read more-wot is/are PSB??
I was guna ask regarding the pumkin seeds we took out of the tesco's pumkin but you have saved me from that post as it's here!
