  • feeding sprouting broccoli

I have a number of pretty healthy looking purple sprouting broccoli plants on the plot and have just cleared out all the calabrese and dead leaves etc. from around them
I was wondering what advice some of you experts would have regarding feeding/ looking after them at this time of year.
I thought it seemed like a good time to apply some feed (organic only!) but dont want to rock the boat and send them to seed.

    Any thoughts?

I tend to leave them alone unless they are looking sickly. They should be pretty tall and strong by now so that they can survive any cold spells. We're probably going to get our first frosts within the next two or three weeks (unless you right in central London).

ALL my PSB plants are smallish! Are they doomed?

Nope, they are pretty damned hardy. It's rare that they can't cope in the UK. More likely the pigeons will get them than the cold!

Later planted ones may not produce such a large crop, just because they haven't had time to grow before the winter sets in, but it depends on the variety, the soil and the weather.
