I've been looking at several websites to get or look into various varieties of seed potatoes and they all seem to have sold out. Is this because of the blight or am i looking too early or too late?
You can order them from the seed catalogues now, but even they won't be delivered until the new year. And be careful if you order this way - or even off the net. Check the quantities you'll be getting, as what seems to be the cheaper option might not be. Try to work out the cost per pound or kilo whatever and compare that. And don't forget to factor in the postage costs, if you're only buying small amounts the postage can make it a very expensive option. It's usually possible to buy your seed potatoes from garden centres in January/February at a much cheaper rate, though admittedly they often have less choice.
thompson and morgan always have a very good selection and if you spend a certain amount in their catalogue you get some free spuds which go a way towards recouping the postage costs
