Has anyone had any success growing these through the winter under cloches to harvest in late spring?

The trouble is lack of daylight hours,you can keep stuff over winter , but without artificial lights ,you'll not grow much of any sort in my experience.

This is a variety (rather a mix of untold varieties) that a company is marketing as suitable for autumn sowing, and over-wintering.

i can't grow carrots in summer let alone winter! i have heavy soil so have tried sowing the short stumpy type but get very poor germination. anyone got any ideas??

If you've got heavy soil try growing them in containers. I've got big 50 litre containers I use for early potatoes, Once the potatoes have been harvested I empty them out and sieve the compost of roots then put it back and sow with Autumn King.
You get a good crop of long carrots and they can stay in the containers all winter for picking as you want them.

Ps I'm also going to try a variety from DT Brown next year called Senior, it's said to be a good vigorous late carrot that can be harvested through to May and that should last me through to early carrot production ensuring year round carrot supply

What/where/why etc for overwintered carrots? Not seen this mythical beast before.
Re clay soil, I have exactly the same problem, and now my entire plot has been turned into raised beds. Very little grows very well when put into the soil, except comfrey.
Containers will also do the trick, the only carrots I grew 2 years ago were in big containers. You need a lot of containers and a lot of space if you want to grow enough for a winter supply clearly, but they do work.

These can be sown in the open under cloches, cold frame or direct into the garden in the ordinary way in drills. Can stay in the soil all winter. The varieties are a closely guarded secret blend of 18 varieties - including varieties that are not supposed to perform through the Winter months but do.

Really interested in an all round carrot.

I am new to veggies adn hav enow got a new raised veggie bed made of recyeled slabs turned on their side so have soil depth.

For now have winter cabbage ,caul and broccili growing and herbs and springs onions.

Have now seen localy onion sets .

Would I be beter covering these plant swith fleece now that its getting cooler.

After seeing these in the GYO I have ordered them. Will be putting them in pots and see what the results are like in Spring. If they are any good my intention is to grow them next year in raised beds for using over winter. Fingers crossed

Ive got nantes in the greenhouse. they have just started to germinate in buckets. No where near enough for the whole winter but hopefully enough for some small spring carrots

I sowed a whole pack of 500 Nantes Frubund last Sunday. The packet says they store well.
