Aha, I thought that was the part you meant.

See, your mother is not insane, you two lads can stop snickering now, cos I was right, well partly....

Anyhoo, I presume you just rest the clove up against something so it doesn't fall over - either that or my cloves are just badly trained, cos they wont stay on end on their own

    Thanks, BrideXIII!

yep, i tend to use a cats bowl, cos it has straight sides, then lean the cloves against them.

If I haven't dreamt the whole thing, could it be that the garlic fails if planted where beans were?
Yeah, intersting point, I know you shouldn't plant alliums near beans but is that just at the same time? or is the some persistance in the soil - so it affects a follow on crop? I guess I shall be finding out too because my garlic went in where the bollotti/french beans were too!!

Well, it would appear I'm having a bad sprout day!

My peas, beans etc. that I put on the damp blotting paper have just all gone smushy and furry and the garlic just kinda looks slimey - no sign of any sprouting, they all smell a bit funky too

Too warm? too wet? too much light?

I feel a bit dis-heartened after reading (and following) all your great advice and was hoping for the smashing results your getting...

Not that i'm going to give in - persistance is my middle name -could it be I am perhaps using the wrong varieties?
