That's exactly what I did in the summer, started adding lots of compost and soil improver and raising the beds. The additional problem I had was that some numpty had been putting ANYTHING in the soil to improve the clay drainage, including broken glass. After OH cut himself quite badly (and mentally punched the previous owner), I started creating potager beds. Mine has settled over the months, but is still very workable and the onions are doing great! I do pick out stones as I go along, but when you start finding chunks of conglomerate and concrete, it gets a bit much!

Yes lots and lots of slugs!
Did find a couple of frogs though, will encourage them and hedgehogs!!
Will get some more big stones out this weekend and then just start adding lotsa compost over the winter! Yay!
