Growing asparagus from seed

Hello! I've never had a great deal of luck with asparagus crowns and last time I moaned about them on here someone suggested growing from seed! So, I've taken your advice (thanks, whoever it was) and am giving it a go....with so far very little success. I've done two sowings but so far had nothing come up. The packet had scant info about temps they need etc so I am turning to the oracle (you lot) to see if you can point me in the right direction. I did consult the google first but got too many varying answers....so tried and tested methods for getting asparagus seed to germinate please!

I sowed some asparagus seed on 30th Jan, did nothing special and so far they are doing ok. I have potted them on twice so far and I now intend to leave them in the current pots until I plant out next year. The picture shows the previous and current pot....

I am going to sow some more this week just to see how they go.

Maybe I over-coddled them then! Just realised I'd already sown the full pack and nothing so perhaps a bad/old batch of seeds! Have ordered more to try again.
