Is it time to plant out leek plants , or is it still too early to put them out

I don't think it is critical when leeks are planted out. They are quite hardy. A lot of books suggest june but the sooner the better really once they are large enough to handle. They do benefit from as long a growing season as possible. I planted mine out 1st May this year as an experiment.

My allotment neighbours have theirs in already. Mine were only sown 3 weeks ago, though, so as yet still look like grass. Mid-June for me, I think.
