Frost damage to potatoes

One of the first years we were here we had a frost on 9th June!
All the spud tops turned black right down to soil level....they did grow back and we did have a reasonable crop .
So don't fret too much if it happens to you

Bean and potatoes suffered some damage last night even covered with fleece. Probably down to -3C here. The potatoes and most of the beans should recover but a few bean plants look like they have had it. Everything in greenhouse was OK as covered with fleece.

Thought the coldest night had past, couldn't get out last night. This morning, very cold, interestingly though the spuds in the barrels have been frosted (blackened leaves) but those in the ground appear OK (so far). Seems like an air frost for us more than a ground frost (no frost on the grass but some on the cars)? Not sure what the plot will be like as that's another 130m up but I'm sure it will all survive if be a touch delayed.

Not sure if there was a frost last night or not in the end. There doesn't seem to be any more damage than before, as far as I can see, but that may just be because the potatoes, etc. are still protected.

Yesterday morning was definitely the coldest here and because of the wind the previous evening I couldn't cover the potatoes at my friend's. The tops of the ones that are not under the trees have been blackened but hopefully will recover. Apart from one small area on a leaf that was touching the plastic at the allotment, the ones I covered there and at home look fine. The tomatoes in my friend's greenhouse appear to have survived.

One more potentially chilly night tonight then the risk of frost should disappear at least for a while. I can't promise it won't be back later though!

Had a hard frost the last few mornings with a very hot day to follow. Some of the leaves were black and just hanging there. Left alone as had other things to do and this morning a lot of new growth. I seam to do better when I leave them alone. I work on the principal that all plants want to live [hopefully] Bob.

While out for a walk yesterday noticed a lot of bracken with blackened leaves. Never seen it like that before.

Dont know if the temp is much different here on the east coast of Ireland.
my potatoes, beans, peas and corn are all growing outdoors without any covering.
My tomatoes, peppers and cucs are in the greenhouse and get fleeced and bubble wrapped every evening.
so far, so good...take care all.

This supposed to be a bit warmer here overnight but I have still covered all my plants and closed down the cold frames and will continue doing this till it gets a bit warmer
