My beetroot and Brussel sprouts have germinated. They are about 1.5 inches high in the seed trays on a window cill. What should I do next with them. Pot on or plant out or something else. They seem a bit small to plant out but are crowded close together.

I would pot them all on. I pot my sprouts on once they have their first true leaves, (I do this with pretty much everything actually). Remember when you have them outside to put a collar around them (brassica collars) to stop cabbage root fly. You can buy them or make them out of cardboard, I've lost so many plants to those damn maggots over the years (Grrrr).
If your beetroots are looking crowded, I'd pot them on too. Beetroot seeds are usually a cluster (I say usually, as the first lot I've sown have been individuals, which I have never known before?) so when you plant them out it will be a little group which push themselves apart.
I tend to pot everything on till they are big enough to survive a slug and snail attack.
Have fun! I've been potting on and sowing for 5hrs so far today!!!Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!
Always aim for the best result possible not the best possible result
