  • Not tied up

Here's my dilemma. I can put the poles for my very healthy bean plants into the raised bed, but I can't tie them into a wigwam, my son usually does this for me. I can't reach and I can't climb, what can I do?

Can you tie them whilst laying on the ground(the poles not you lol), then put them up like a tent afterwards?

As burnie said tie the canes at one end by looping the string round each individual cane then tie off the ends to make a circle as tight as you think you need
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Or tie them in the middle to make a X.

Definitely tie them on the ground first. I’m pretty certain that’s how real wigwams are erected for the same reason, it’s impossible to reach once up.

            Kind Regards..........Rob

I no longer tie the tops of my bean canes, whether in a circle or in a row. I push them into the ground vertically, not at an angle as you do to tie them. If they are pushed firmly into the ground they stay upright, and as the beans twine around they mutually support each other.

Flo do a search for 'bean wigwam grips' they make putting together a wigwam easy its a round disk that holds the canes in place rather than using string.

It's up! Thank you for the support (pun intended). It's not beautiful but it's functional. Beans going in tomorrow.

I only make mine the height I can reach in more of a X , or I chop off cane ends and have long ones stretching joining the wigwams together through the X so they can ramble further .
