Took the dog for his walk ... today he discovered the canal is wet straight thru the ice and managed to get himself out in a cloud of steam and a spray of water .
Just about finished the ideas for the back garden ... its changed over the months but just about tied it down. Now I just need to clear the greenhouse out and set up my heated bench ready for sowing seeds.
got to take Mrs G to the hospital for an endoscopy ... so thats tomorrow taken care of

Yesterday I spent some time working out which buckets and compost I am going to use for things like carrots and potatoes at home. This is more complicated than it sounds because some of the compost that has grown carrots in usually has vine weevils in it and needs resting and treating with nematodes, and some of the buckets don't have holes in the bottom (just around the sides at the bottom) which makes them unsuitable for standing on self watering trays. Some of the compost is several years old and needs spreading on the garden or allotment to make room for fresh compost for potatoes. There is therefore usually a good deal of compost shuffling to plan in order to avoid using compost that grew the same thing last year or the wrong type of bucket.

Today looks impossibly wet - the garden is under water again after overnight rain with more forecast later today, I dare not walk anywhere except on the paths, and the allotment is best left alone.

Managed to move the hotbin and did my best to fill in the holes with stones and gravel. I doubt it will be enough, but there are traps laid and hopefully the disturbance will persuade the residents to move house! Also potted up mizuna seedlings.

Today's job, while waiting for BT to arrive is to move the hotbin and level the paving slab underneath it, which has been undermined by excavations - I suspect rats

Not a lot of chance to do gardening for the next couple of days, with appointments mainly due to repeated technology failures. Workmen demand you stay in waiting all morning or all afternoon, making gardening virtually impossible. Maybe next year...
