Very busy yesterday and today - already planted out 2 melons, potted up 2 very sick looking tomato plants, trimmed the allotment roadside hedge and harvested peas, spinach and strawberries. Out of time now.

I have seen it reported (even in the Grauniad at an agricultural level I believe), I need to try this. The theory is sensible, the whiff of garlic makes the spores deploy, but then they have nothing to eat and so get exhausted.

What I will doing today. Melt mostly...

I started originally by pulling infected plants as soon as they began to show symptoms and that was reducing the rate of infection year on year, then I used a wash made from elephant garlic, now I'm using garlic powder. The first garlic crop we grew on our current plot was 100% lost to white rot, after a few years we got it down to 50%, then 25% and this year just 7%

Thanks - I tried water that had been soaking onion foliage over night on my onion bed, watering it in in the summer last year. The onion sets were planted in February, and are just starting to show yellow tips to the leaves, but this could be drought. I really need to investigate...

Garlic powder sounds a much easier way to treat the bed.
