Wednesday jobs
Collect rain water - done
Weeding and horsetail - done some
Remove yellow brassica leaves - done some
Deadheading - done some
Harvest lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot, check peas, strawberries - done some
Also cut back the nettles and I'm attempting to make some nettle feed with them.
Annoyingly the council stopped the hedge cutting half way down, so they may well do mine today when I am busy with meetings and probably won't have time to clear up the mess.

Driving past the allotments this morning it looks like the council are cutting the hedge. I will probably therefore have to spend most of the gardening time clearing up the clippings.

*I usually do no dig, but my friend's garden is next to fields and there are definite rat runs under the veg garden. I have tried filling them with water, but that doesn't seem to stop more holes from appearing. Apart from the idea of working that near rats (which is probably happening anyway to be honest), the rat runs deprive the plants of water and I have had sections of pea plants die as a result. So I am digging to disturb them as they do not like being disturbed.

Check tomatoes and remove sideshoots - done some

Unfortunately I was busy yesterday morning and it became very showery in the afternoon, preventing me from visiting the allotment for any amount of time. We then had a thunderstorm that dumped a load of hail and I spent all the time I had scooping a dustbin full off the nets and tunnel roof and also rescuing a potted tomato plant that had blown over in a sudden gust of wind.
No gardening time today and unlikely to be any tomorrow.Last edited by Penellype; 12-09-2024, 07:37 AM.

Rain scuppered any chance of gardening at times when I was free to do it on Monday, and it rained most of the morning today too. I scooped up about 3 dustbins full of water off the paths at the allotment yesterday. Shut the greenhouse and growhouse as it is going to be chilly for the next few nights.
