Friday was one of those frustrating days when you have too much to do to garden when the weather is good, and as soon as you go outside it starts to rain. Managed to harvest a few tomatoes from the allotment and a cucumber from the greenhouse, nip off a few deadheads and collect some rain water, but that was about it.

I had electricians round today looking for an electrical fault, which could have taken them all day. Luckily they found it fairly quickly and had gone by 11am (the fault was a broken wire inside a socket, which they said could easily have set the house on fire!). I therefore had time to go to the allotment this afternoon, and got quite a bit of weeding done as well as trimming some grass edges. Also sowed some lettuce.

I have never had Desiree potatoes with large amounts of foliage still green in mid October before.

My Desiree did something similar. I’d removed all the flowers so they were nearly ready,then I left them for over a month,waiting for the leaves to die down,I removed one yellowing stem,waiting for the rest to yellow,it never did mostly green leaves,then weeks later there was more flowers like it was regrowing or something? I just removed all the growth then & there when that happened,the charlottes didn’t behave like that but they didn’t flower,the flowering really made me notice. The potatoes have been normal harvesting tho,maybe the heat confused them or stalled their growth for a month?

Quite possibly the heat had something to do with it. As long as the potatoes are edible, that's all that really matters.
