        Finish hotbed - done most*
Harvest lettuce, salad leaves, microgreens, carrots - done except carrots

        * I have filled the bed with horse manure but not topped it up with compost from last year's bed, for the simple reason that it is still frozen solid.
Also planted 3 seed potatoes that were absolutely desperate in a bucket in the garage.

        Weekend jobs

        At my friend's
Check state of garden and greenhouse. Unlikely to be defrosted as it is colder there than here.
        Weeding if possible

        At allotment
In the unlikely event of the old hotbed defrosting, top up new hotbed with compost.
Weeding and clear leaves where possible

        At home
Put some pepper seeds to chit in airing cupboard
        Weeding if possible
Harvest microgreens, salad leaves, lettuce, carrots

Busy most of Saturday and with a maximum temperature yesterday of just 0.6C it was simply too cold to do anything outside.

Monday jobs (weather and enthusiasm permitting)
          Check allotment
          Weeding
          Clear leaves
          Top up hotbed if possible
          Harvest carrots, leeks

Slightly warmer yesterday but it decided to rain on and off and that was enough to put me off doing much, although I put a net back over the parsnip bed as there were signs that the cat had been scratching in it.

The weather and my enthusiasm are no better today so I am giving it a break for now. There isn't much I can do until the deep frost melts anyway.

            • I did manage to top up the new hotbed yesterday after breaking through a half inch thick frozen layer on top of the old hotbed. I'd hoped to harvest a parsnip as well, but the compost there had not been covered with black plastic and I couldn't break through the frozen layer. Harvested a carrot from the garage instead.

              Wednesday jobs
Batten down the hatches - severe gales forecast on Friday
Harvest salad leaves, microgreens, carrot, leek

Meetings this morning and it looks like this afternoon is going to be wet, so gardening unlikely.

I have no intention of attempting to do anything in the garden except check for damage tomorrow (storm Eowyn)
