  • Claremont Lettuce

Has anyone had success growing Claremont Lettuces? They are a Romaine/Cos cross which I got from Thompson & Morgan. I'm now on my 3rd sowing and so far have 1 lettuce. I've requested a refund.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

New one on me, they sound like a winner, I have found that some lettuce are better germinators than others, I'm growing some cut and come again T&M mixed crispy ones that came free with the magazine, they are growing like weeds, they are everywhere.

      Absolutely Burnie, a right winner!
I've also got Tom Thumb and Gustav's Salad, both of which are fantastic. Just wished the Claremont had grown, a Romaine/Cos cross sounds great.

We are tending to go away from the bigger hearted varieties, they can be a bit big for two to eat in one go and they don't quite taste the same after a day or two in the fridge, cut and come again along with a bit of white cabbage leaf are tasty and crunchy too.

Is it a germination issue? If so, have recent sowings been outside or in a greenhouse? Because lettuce seeds don't like heat, and it inhibits their germination.
If you feel cheated, though, I'd just complain. They'll send you a replacement packet almost without question (although admittedly with things as they are now, customer services may be a good deal slower than usual).
